Week 6

Internship Summary at Nutrien Ag Solutions

Monday:
On Monday, I attended an important meeting with the Nutrien division. During this meeting, we thoroughly examined different varieties in a plot I had helped plant earlier in the season. It was a great opportunity to see the results of my hard work and to discuss the progress and potential improvements with experienced professionals. Additionally, this meeting provided a fantastic chance to network and meet other crop consultants from the Breckenridge location.

Tuesday:
Tuesday was dedicated to crop scouting, an essential part of our weekly routine. This sampling trip was different because I got to sample sugar beets for the first time. During my inspection, I discovered some deficiencies that needed further investigation. This finding required additional sampling to determine the root cause and plan appropriate corrective measures. This hands-on experience was invaluable in enhancing my diagnostic skills and understanding of crop health management.

Wednesday:
Wednesday was a busy and productive day. We spent the entire day making our usual deliveries to various clients, ensuring they had the necessary supplies for their crops. In addition to the deliveries, we conducted sampling in several fields. The continuous field sampling and interactions with clients provided a comprehensive understanding of the diverse challenges faced by farmers and the solutions we can offer.

Thursday:
On Thursday, the Nutrien Division had organized a competition to see which location could put up the most wheat signs. This friendly competition was aimed at promoting Dynagro wheat across our territory. I spent the day traveling from Westphalia to Saginaw, putting up wheat signs.

Friday:
Friday was an exceptionally exciting and informative day. We had the privilege of meeting with representatives from DeKalb for lunch. This informal setting allowed for open and insightful discussions about the latest developments in crop varieties and agricultural technologies. After lunch, we examined DeKalb’s plot of new corn varieties. It was fascinating to learn about the genetic advancements and potential benefits of these new varieties. The representatives shared detailed information about the traits and performance of these corn varieties, enhancing my understanding of crop breeding and innovation.
