Wheat is coming fast and for some farmers it is in full swing. The weather is once again playing a big factor for our schedule at work whether it be y-dropping nitrogen in corn or wheat harvest. My job has slowed down some what with filling trucks for fertilizer, but we have stayed busy with customers coming in for Roundup and other chemicals. I had the opportunity to go down to our Oakley location and run some falling numbers tests for wheat which tests the density of the flour and how much it will rise. This was a cool thing to learn and interesting because I didn’t know they tested for that at the elevator when it was brought in.
Other than that, there hasn’t been a lot of exciting things going on at this point because spraying has slowed down and wheat is just starting. I have a feeling that the next couple of weeks are going to be very busy though and some long hours are a possibility. It is crazy how fast the summer is going and how much the crops are growing. I am thankful that our area was not hit as hard as others with the flooding and rainfall, but it has still been an out of the ordinary year for rain.
