These past two weeks have certainly been very critical to corn production in the region. This time of the season is when pollination is occurring. Basically if the timing of the silks and tassels are off, we could end up with a bad crop.
Interestingly enough across the country we are predicted to have a very good year for crops. They are even talking about possible record yields for corn. This has been having some negative effects on the markets recently, and futures haven’t been looking very good. But this is all a part of agriculture. It goes beyond the farm, and beyond our dinner plates. There are a lot of challenges that are out of our control, but we will still have to face in the future.
