Week 2: Indianapolis

Last week the Greenhouse Education Center was in Indy, leading up to the Indy 500. While we were there we visited Kroger stores and talked to customers about greenhouse growing.

Previous weeks we have been in the Toronto area, so just being in the Midwest felt a little bit like home.

When we go to the grocery stores we park our trailer as close to the front door as we can and try to talk to customers about how we grow. Some of the most common questions when people see the trailer is: “Is that real?!” or “Why doesn’t my garden look like that?”.  The easiest way to answer those questions is to explain that we have a controlled environment in our greenhouses. Our plants are able to get all of the nutrients that they need and our growers are able to monitor the conditions in the greenhouse right from their phones. In addition, we send samples of our plants and the water to a lab to be analyzed so that we can be sure that our water contains all the right nutrients that our plants need to grow and produce the best vegetables that we can get.
