This week in the office I learned that every processing plant, for the most part, in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and Wisconsin is at capacity of milk or over capacity. MMPA’s job is to market the milk of their members to the best of their ability by getting in to schools, cafeterias, or wherever it can go. According to recent research, every American needs to ear three more pounds of cheese per year and if every student in schools would drink 3 cartons of milk, the small prairie farms size you got in elementary school, the market would be able handle all the milk that Michigan produces. So as you can imagine, it isn’t very easy to find places for milk to go and cows milk 365 days a year so everyday we must find new ways to market our milk. So a take home message, drink and eat more dairy-its healthy and you’ll be helping dairy farmers around our state!
