Detasseling season has been long already and it has just began. My focus for this week has been to count silks and tassels behind the detasseling crews. The sudden heat that has hit this July has caused a week of craziness. All of the fields shot up and are in need of being detasseled. This results in late nights and early mornings for everyone. Luckily, we have a good group of interns and inspectors that have been able to get a lot done each day. As the crews finish each field, we have to continue counting each field until we have had three days of 99.75 percent tassels removed and 98 percent silk. After those three days, we can close the field and continue with scouting.
